OUR MISSION
Our mission is to improve existing health care facilities and create new medical and surgical care centres, operated by Foundation medical and paramedical staff and to upgrade the technical training of local health personnel.
“The initiative to establish a Foundation of medical volunteers in Central Africa was born in 1995 in Rwanda and Burundi after I spent a long period there as a volunteer surgeon. The miserable conditions of the population, especially the children, many of whom were seriously disabled, were being made more precarious. In 2000 the opportunity arose to run a local hospital in Bubanza in the Northern region of Burundi and although it had been looted, the structure was intact. With the moral support of Cardinal Ersilio Tonini, I created the International Foundation of Doctors for Central Africa (FIMAC), a not-for-profit organization.”.
